Play Dates for Parents

Becoming a new parent is a life changing experience, but if you’ve recently moved to a new city you may be worried about having a solid support circle to rely on.

After the baby is born the relatives flock in. Grandparents take extended visits to help out during the first few weeks and friends and family are in an uproar over who the baby looks like the most. When all of that excitement dies down and everyone leaves for home, you want to have a local network of new moms and dads in place. Other parents with kids around the same age group as yours can be a wealth of knowledge, experience, and shoulders to cry on.

If you haven’t made any new friends in your new town or the ones you have made are single or without kids, look into joining a play date group. If your community doesn’t have one, start one yourself!

Determine if the group will meet at a certain location every week or if the locations will alternate. Create a flyer announcing your intentions. Professional flyer printing can be done inexpensively and will catch attention.

When interested parents contact you, get any information about food allergies and ask if they would be interested in supplying snacks. Keep the play date group small so no child feels left out. If your children are still young to interact with each other, make this group more about making friends with the other parents. By the time your children are old enough to play, you’ll already have a play date group established.
